Well, this is a fascinating tale.
Paige goes to lick her wounds in her father's manor house, Woodham Hall. But whilst there, she's tasked with revealing the secrets held within a family painting from 1672.
And we're treated to a blow-by-blow account of the 1672 tale of betrayal and revenge. The husband is an absolute rotter and packs his wife off to a convent in France - sacré bleu!
Also in 1672, we see a timid romance between two ladies, which was endearing.
There are hints of ghostly activity, making it an especially good October read.
I'm going to gloss over primogeniture and how this is more a poisoner's tale than one of alchemy, because honestly, this is fiction and it captivated me. And it was clearly well-researched - we're treated to some marvellous dresses and I could see, hear and smell everything (more so the 1672 world, admittedly).
I was completely immersed in this book.
Always in love and light,
TL
